Zenoss Newsletter - September 2008
By Mark Hinkle on Sep 25, 2008 in newsletter
Thank you for your continued support and interest in Zenoss. This month we tip our hats to our user community which has helped extend and improve Zenoss products and helped us to garner recognition as the best in the industry.
Open Source Monitoring Options
Jane Curry, a long-time certified IBM Tivoli consultant and trainer from Skills 1st in the UK, published a paper comparing popular open source systems management options. See why she believes Zenoss to be the best choice in “Open Source Management Options”. (link to Whitepaper PDF)
Tip of the Month: Improving LDAP Performance
Nathaniel McCallum’s instructions for making Zenoss use LDAP or ActiveDirectory for Authentication and Authorization had a very important update from Scott Haskell. Users were reporting very slow UI response times and Scott narrowed it down to those installations using LDAP. He tracked down the Zope RAM Cache Manager and updated the documentation on how to greatly improve performance.
Additional ZenPacks
Congratulations are in order for Andrea ‘konsa79′ Consadori and Fabio Paracchini who were the winners in this summer’s “Submit a ZenPack Contest“. They will each be receiving an Asus Eee PC for their awesome ZenPacks. The contest generated over 20 new ZenPacks to extend Zenoss’ monitoring capabilities for Asterisk PBX, Cisco’s Adaptive Security Appliance, MS SQL Server 2000/2005 and many more.
Zenoss Core on Mac OS X
In the upcoming release of Zenoss Core 2.3 we will be adding installers for Mac OS X. We want to know if you are interested in demoing or deploying Zenoss Core on Mac OS X or other operating systems, let us know and you will be entered to win an iPod Touch.
Testify: Tell us Your Story and Win
The best way for people to understand why Zenoss is a great network management solution is to have someone who uses Zenoss every day explain the benefits. So here’s the deal: tell your Zenoss story, inspire other Zenoss users and win a cool Neuros Open Embedded Media Center.
